What you need to know about SNAP changes starting February 1, 2026
New rules may affect your SNAP benefits if you are:
- 18 to 64 years old
- Do not live with a child under 14
- Physically and mentally able to work 80 hours a month
You may be considered an Able-Bodied Adult Without Dependents (ABAWD). Under federal rules, ABAWDs can only receive SNAP benefits for 3 months in a 3-year period unless they meet the work requirement or qualify for an exemption. You can check if you are exempt or are meeting the SNAP work requirements using the screening tool here.
To keep your SNAP benefits, ABAWDs must spend at least 80 hours each month working, participating in an approved work program, volunteering, or doing a combination of these activities.
