Windy City ToolBank

The Windy City ToolBank is a nonprofit organization that serves community-based organizations by providing tools, equipment, and expertise to empower their most ambitious goals. Rather than every nonprofit purchasing and storing expensive equipment they only use occasionally, organizations can borrow what they need so they can invest more of their resources into serving their communities. As the Midwest hub for ToolBank Disaster Services, we also support disaster preparedness and recovery across a ten-state region, ensuring communities have access to critical equipment before, during, and after disasters. Together, we help the helpers build stronger, more resilient communities.

The Windy City ToolBank maintains a growing inventory of thousands of tools and pieces of equipment available for affordable lending to nonprofits, schools, faith-based organizations, community groups, and government agencies. Our inventory supports volunteer projects, community gardens, neighborhood cleanups, park improvements, construction and repair, educational programming, arts and cultural events, disaster response, and emergency preparedness. Beyond lending tools, we create hands-on volunteer experiences through programs like Building Change, provide logistical support for community initiatives, and coordinate equipment and resources for disaster response throughout the Midwest. Every tool borrowed helps expand the impact of organizations working to improve their communities.
