The Community Organizations Active in Disaster group will be hosting a training a Volunteer Reception Center. A Volunteer Reception Center (VRC) would be activated in the event of a disaster to intake and pair interested volunteers with opportunities to help in the community.

VRC training focuses on managing spontaneous unaffiliated volunteers after a disaster. We will learn how to register, assess, and assign volunteers to appropriate roles, ensuring safety, coordination, and proper documentation of hours for effective emergency response. 

This will be a free training and lunch will be provided! 

Positive attitudes towards presenting comprehensive (including abstinence and contraception) sexual health information to youth, and promotion of holistic wellness for adolescents

Tact and sensitivity toward the feelings and opinions of others when presenting health information to youth

Collaboration with the community to reduce rates of STI and HIV infections, reduce disparities in STI and HIV infections, and reinforce efforts to reduce teen pregnancy rates

The GYT: Get Yourself Tested Events are a community collaboration between Central Illinois Friends and Hult Center for Healthy Living, Carle In-School Health, Peoria Public Schools, and countless other community-based agencies in Central Illinois.

These events are made possible with funding from the Heart of Illinois United Way.

Restoration Workdays are designed to help remove invasive plant species that interfere with the native habitat in our parks. This is an important step in maintaining a healthy environment in our parks and community. Plant removal is done through cutting with hand tools and/ or hand pulling when possible. This is a hands-on task and requires volunteers to be able to bend, carry tools, traverse uneven terrain, and in some cases walk long distances.
*11/4 date we will be picking up trash along the hillside while the road is closed for it's monthly maintenance work. 

Close toed shoes are required, long pants are preferred, but are optional. Please bring a water bottle and work gloves. We will provide work gloves if needed.

Zootober, where Halloween comes alive in the most thrilling way! Each weekend, the Peoria Zoo transforms after dark into a family-friendly fright fest, bursting with glowing lights, spooktastic characters, and hair-raising fun.

Volunteers will assist with kids crafts and games, hand out candy, and help with other event details. Family Friendly costumes are encouraged!

Step back in time and help celebrate our community’s history! The Carnegie-Stout Public Library is seeking volunteers for the History Expo on Sunday, October 12 at Loras College Alumni Campus Center.

Volunteers will assist from 12:30–4:00 p.m. with greeting guests, counting attendees, giving directions, and helping with setup or other light event support as needed.

This is a fun and easy way to be part of a local tradition that brings history to life — all you need is a smile and a little curiosity!

On October 11, the Dubuque Museum of Art celebrates the opening of its temporary residency in the Historic Millwork District with a free daylong festival of music, performance, food, exhibitions, and art making. 

In Conversation: Will Wilson pairs the work of Diné (Navajo) photographer Will Wilson with that of Edward S. Curtis.

Threads of Belonging, a juried exhibition, celebrates the voices of regional Latinx, Hispanic, and Indigenous artists.

The Latinx Fiesta takes the party to the streets with an afternoon of food, performance, and art celebrating Latinx culture.

For the festival there will be live performances, various vendors, food trucks, games, and family crafts.

The shifts we need are:

Greeter: People to help with greeting people and assisting with directions and locations.

Attendants: People to help with general day of activities, things like bathroom breaks, helping at a busy station, getting more supplies, etc.

Set up and Clean up: People to help set up in the morning or people to clean up at the end (helping with tables, tents, chairs, picking up trash, gathering supplies, etc.

We are excited to expand this opportunity to more nurses: If you are an RN or LPN with a current professional license, the American Red Cross is eager to talk with you about an incredible volunteer opportunity at the Woodson Health Clinic at the Rock Island Arsenal.  Join a tradition of Red Cross nurses going all the way back to our founder, Clara Barton, by providing excellent patient care at a family clinic for our US Army personnel at the Arsenal.  The time commitment is minimal: If you can work one 5-hour shift per week, you will help meet the needs of the patients who rely on the clinic. This is an ideal opportunity for retired nurses or nurses who are working part-time.  If you want to give back to our military service members and continue to hone your clinical skills, we want to meet you and see if this is a great mutual fit.  Volunteers would work under the supervision of the officer-in-charge at the clinic, who is a Family Nurse Practitioner.   

During a public shopping event, volunteers keep the area looking good. We remove empty hangers, rearrange displays, and bag the shoppers' clothing. We assist shoppers with selection, if needed. Individuals and groups of all ages are welcome to help.

Hello, We are looking for volunteer Block Monitors for the Halloween parade on Saturday, October 18, 2025.  It starts at Washington Park (7th St), and travels down Locust Street to Jackson Park (15th St).

You will be assigned to a block of Locust St. You will be their to remind people to stay behind the street curb during the parade. This is for the safety of everyone. The parade route will be marked with yellow caution tape on both sides, which helps to keep people at the curb. there will be Police Officers along the parade route if you need assistance.

We will have traffic vests for you to wear for your safety, and we can provide flashlights if you do not have one.

A training meeting will be held at 5:00pm and then you will walk to your assigned block.  We recommend bringing chairs to wait before the parade starts, bringing water or food if needed, and dressing in layers to keep warm.

Pearce is looking for Youth Sports Program Volunteers! We are currently in volleyball season and are in need of coaches and officials. Games take place on Saturday mornings at 10:00 am. Looking ahead to October, our Youth Basketball program will begin, and we are seeking volunteer coaches to help lead the season. If you enjoy working with kids and love sports, this is a great opportunity to make a difference!

Duck Derby Volunteer Description
Riverview Center’s annual Duck Derby is one of our biggest and most exciting fundraisers of the year! Thousands of rubber ducks will race down the river, with lucky winners receiving great prizes—all while raising vital funds to support survivors of sexual and domestic violence in our community.

We rely on volunteers to make this fun, family-friendly event possible. Volunteer opportunities include:

Morning Setup Shift (Oct. 11-12, 8:30–11:00 AM) – Meet at the Galena office at 8:30 AM. Volunteers will help transport ducks, tables, and chairs to the park and set up all tables for the day.

Mid-Shifts (Oct. 11–12, 11:00 AM–1:00 PM) – Mid-shifts pick up where the previous shift left off and carry on until the next shift arrives. Tasks may include running the tables, assisting runners, helping with set-up or organizing supplies, or other tasks to keep the event running smoothly.

Table 1 and Table 2 Shifts (Oct. 11–12) – All table assignments consist of sitting or standing near a table (chairs provided) and asking passersby if they would like to participate in the Duck Derby by purchasing a duck. Volunteers at each table work together to ensure shifts are covered and breaks are taken as needed.

Table 1 is located on the bridge landing. This is our busiest spot with lots of foot traffic!

Table 2 is on the far side of the park, right in the heart of the festival near food and craft vendors.

Last Table Shift – Saturday (Oct. 11, 3:30–5:00 PM) – Responsible for taking down tables and chairs and putting them away (storage location TBD). Bring ducks, tickets, and money to Table 1 and assist with clean-up, loading, and transporting items back to the Galena office as needed.

Last Table Shift – Sunday (Oct. 12, 1:00–3:30 PM) – Continue with duck sales until 2:30 PM. Gather all items, take down tables/chairs, take money, tables, chairs, tickets, and unsold ducks to Table 1. Deliver sold ducks to the bridge and assist with the Duck Drop at 3:00 PM, then help with tear-down and clean-up.

Duck Drop Volunteers (Oct. 12, 2:30–4:00 PM) – Meet on the bridge at 2:30 PM to prepare for the big race! The runner will have collected all tickets and sold ducks ahead of time. Together, the team ties the red tarp to the bridge to create a pocket, carefully places the ducks inside, and waits for the 3:00 PM countdown to release them into the river.

This role requires strength, but with at least 10 people on the bridge (including those working the 1:00–3:30 PM table shift), the work is manageable.

After the drop, bridge volunteers assist with teardown, clean-up, and collecting ducks from the river.

The bridge is a great spot for groups to volunteer—athletic teams, student groups, or clubs looking for a fun way to give back are especially encouraged to sign up.

Whether you can give a couple of hours or a whole day or both days, your support helps us make a big splash for survivors!

Bluff Street Neighborhood Association is celebrating Christmas on the Square and is looking for volunteers to help make this a special event! Volunteers are needed for set up, throughout the event, and tear down. 

Volunteers can be age 12 and older with a parent or age 16 or older independently.

FLEXIBLE VOLUNTEERING CHOICES
Location
Volunteering for Junior Achievement is flexible, and in many cases, you may be able to serve a class close to your home or workplace!

Time Investment
The JA program team provides resources that make preparation easy, and with so many learning experiences to choose from, you can pick one that best fits your goals and objectives. Most volunteers will visit classrooms five times in one school semester for five class periods (about 45 min. for each class period/lesson). A typical JA volunteer will spend just ten hours preparing and volunteering!

Grade Level
Junior Achievement has learning experiences for grades K-12. Volunteers are able to select the grade and/or subject matter that best meets their volunteering goals and objectives. 

Delivery Model
 We have in-person, virtual, and blended learning experiences!

 K-12 LEARNING EXPERIENCES
Elementary
In grades K-5, children are eager to learn and full of energy! If you like working with elementary grade children, you will love volunteering for JA! Games, engaging worksheets, and more are used to make learning fun and impactful for this age group.

Middle School
Volunteering with youth in grades 6-8 is very rewarding! It can be so much fun but also helps youth at a critical stage in their educational journeys. In this age group, youth are curious about the future and the kind of jobs that exist. They have a longer attention span than elementary grade children, and they are capable of creating relevant plans for their futures. 

High School
If you enjoy working with kids that are ready to tackle the world but are looking for the paths to be opened up to them and are fascinated by innovation and entrepreneurship, the high school volunteer experience may be right for you! Volunteering at the high school level will typically be focused on one or more of the three JA pathways: financial literacy, work/career readiness, and entrepreneurship/entrepreneurial thinking. 

Help advocates and staff members with tabling events and outreach volunteer opportunities in the community! If you enjoy meeting others and spreading awareness throughout your community, we'd love to have you volunteer with us and help with various events! Are you available one day a week? Are you wanting to make the difference in the healing process of a sexual assault survivor? Become an advocate for sexual assault survivors today! Flexible hours for on-call shifts and respond in-person to area hospitals and law enforcement centers, provide support and resources to survivors of sexual assault. Available shifts are 5pm until 8am the next morning Monday-Friday, on Saturdays and Sundays shifts are from 8am until 8am the following day, and occasionally, 8am-5pm Monday through Friday.

 We are looking for individuals, groups, businesses, restaurants, families, etc., to prepare meals for the families staying at Family House. 

The Heart of the House Meal Program provides a way to extend care and comfort to our families who appreciate a home-cooked meal before going to the hospital, or upon return from a long day of medical treatments, or spending the day at the bedside of their loved one. 

Home-cooked meals keep the families from having to go to restaurants, eating out the vending machines,  having to cook after being at the hospital all day, and it allows them to just sit down and unwind. 

Here are some ways to ensure our guests can enjoy a nice meal during their stay:

We have two communal kitchens with everything you need to cook with. We have  3 barbecue grills outside. You will just need to provide the food you are planning to prepare. The number of families varies day by day, but you can call close to the day you are coming to get a count of how many families we have.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Mississippi Valley (BBBSMV) has an urgent need for mentors — especially male mentors — with more than 200 local youth currently waiting for a Big. Our one-on-one mentoring programs connect caring adult volunteers with area youth, creating meaningful relationships that empower young people to reach their full potential.

BBBSMV provides mentoring environments that meet the needs of our Littles (youth) while offering flexibility for our Bigs (volunteers). Each Big Brothers Big Sisters match is thoughtfully planned to ensure compatibility, safety, and success, creating positive and memorable experiences for everyone involved.

Community-Based Program
Bigs and Littles meet out in the community, usually on evenings or weekends. Spending 6–10 hours per month together, matches explore the Quad Cities, enjoy free or low-cost activities, and try new things while building a lasting friendship.

School-Based Plus Program
Bigs meet with their Littles at a local elementary school, typically during the lunch or recess hour. About once a week, matches can share lunch, play games, read, work on projects, or enjoy recess together.

BBBSMV also offers monthly group activities for all Bigs and Littles — from developmentally focused outings for elementary students to Big Futures events that support career exploration and post–high school planning for middle and high school youth.

Every Thursday through the growing season, volunteers will help with processing and preserving the fruits & vegetables harvested each week from our gardens.  Shifts are scheduled from 10am to noon and noon to 2pm, but you are welcome to sign up for both shifts!  

This volunteer role does require training, so if you have attended one of our Kitchen Volunteer training sessions, you are eligible to sign up.  Otherwise, please reach out to our Program Coordinator at jessica@convivium-dbq.com to learn more about getting trained to help in our kitchens.

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) are trained volunteers whose role is to advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children in the Sangamon County juvenile court system. CASA strives to ensure that society is fulfilling its most fundamental obligation to children in need. CASA trains and supports qualified, compassionate adults that will fight for and protect a child's right to be safe, to be treated with dignity  and respect, and to learn and grow in the security of a loving family.

EP!C's Community Day Services Program works to ensure each participant enjoys a productive, enjoyable day while building skills to enrich their lives. Looking for a rewarding way to give back? As a volunteer with this program, you’ll play a vital role in creating joyful, purposeful days for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. You’ll assist staff in planning and leading a variety of hands-on activities, from arts and crafts to music, games, basic life skills training, and community outings. Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP): Objectively counsel Medicare beneficiaries, their Caregivers or a representative who has questions regarding Medicare, Medicare Supplement, Medicare Managed Care, Medicare Advantages and/or Prescription Drug Coverage.  Requires Certification through Illinois Department on Aging. 

Visit residents residing in a state licensed facility on a regular basis. Listen to residents' concerns and problems while having a friendly visit. Report observations, support residents' rights, privacy and confidentiality. Refer urgent concerns to the Ombudsman.  Requires additional Illinois Department on AGing training.  NEEDED IN ALL OFFICES!

Open and organize mail, balance checkbooks, pay bills for participants in the program. Assist in keeping the participant on track with their budgets. (Please note volunteer placement is based on the needs of the participants). Needed in all offices. Requires additional Illinois Department on Aging training.

Seeking Volunteers for any office. Specifically, we are looking for someone who would enjoy calling older adults after a home visit with a Care Coordinator to discuss further needs they may have. An example: Ensure that the participants home delivered meals started or how their respite services are going. Complete follow up surveys after a participant received services while in the hospital. Assist with Medicaid recertifications, assist in completing the annual applications, sort Medicaid mail and make follow up calls to participants regarding the Medicaid mail.

Assist local agencies in identifying and reviewing suspicious deaths of adult victims of alleged, suspected, or substantiated abuse or neglect in domestic living situations. 

The FRT meets once a quarter/4times a year. Qualifying volunteers include and are not limited to the following professions: Coroners, Health Care, States Attorneys, Police/Sherrif Departments, Health Departments and other Human Service Providers.

Multidisciplinary Teams (M-Teams) Volunteer: M-Teams are comprised of selected professionals from a variety of disciplines who meet minimally eight times per year (virtual options are available) to discuss and provide consultation on specific cases of adult abuse, neglect, or financial exploitation. The purpose is to use the varied backgrounds, training and philosophies of the different professions to explore the best service plan for the cases involved. The specific goals are to improve each Provider Agency’s response to its adult abuse and neglect clients by: Providing consultation on complex cases. Acting as a sounding board for case workers. Providing different perspectives on problems. Improving networking among peers within each professional group.  Additional Illinois Department on Aging training is required.

This is a hands-on task and requires volunteers to be able to bend, carry tools, traverse uneven terrain, and in some cases walk long distances.

Basic Function: Under the supervision of Alternatives Program staff and Directors, assist agency programs and participants in promoting the independence and quality of life of older adults and their families.

Basic Responsibilities: Have knowledge of resources and talk with isolated seniors through our Ring for Care Program, assist agency programs by making program packets/materials, make copies, update resources, file, fold brochures, prep mass mailings, work with the Caregiver Counselors to call and assist Caregivers and/or assist with Caregiver Support groups, help prep and attend agency outreach events, become SHIP certified to assist with Medicare and Medicaid applications for Open Enrollment. 

Qualifications: Enjoy working with older adults and the general population. Must have the ability to pass a background check. Have good listening skills and maintain confidentiality. Complete initial orientation/training and attend annual meeting for volunteers. Complete an agency volunteer timesheet with a description of tasks performed. Must be able to commit a minimum of two hours a month.

Alzheimer's Association Community Representatives are community engagers that raise awareness of Alzheimer's Association programs, provide basic disease information, and link consumers to Alzheimer’s Association services. Our representatives serve as liaisons between the Alzheimer's Association and local groups such as neighborhoods, rural counties, businesses, and civic organizations or faith communities.

These volunteers represent the Alzheimer’s Association by sharing information about Alzheimer’s disease, free resources offered through the Alzheimer’s Association, and the many ways to join our cause at local community and education events.  There are also opportunities to do short educational presentations for those who are interested.

Our volunteers are asked to spend a minimum of 3 hours per month in their assigned facility, complete monthly reports, work with long-term care ombudsman staff at the local and state levels, and complete annual continuing education to remain certified. 

Visits to facilities are generally unannounced and can be made at any time, any day generally between the hours of 8am-8pm. For a volunteer who may wish to make an impact but not wish/be able to make visits to facilities, there are more administrative volunteer opportunities available on an individualized basis.

Our Critter Meals on Wheels program delivers food twice a month to over 120 pets in the Greater Peoria area that provide companionship for our Meals on Wheels clients. You can allow us to continue serving these individuals and their pets by hosting a pet food drive. Twice a month, Neighborhood House hosts a food pantry that has assisted ~350 individuals within the Peoria community. The food pantry is in need of several shelf-stable items that will allow us to continue serving the community by providing nutritional food. The RiverWorks Assistant (Education) (2nd floor) is responsible for helping the Educator at the RiverWorks Stream Table during peak hours. Please help clean up any water, hang up smocks and collect boats. Extra towels and smocks are available in the storage closet. This area can get wet, so volunteers/interns should wear footwear that will not hold water. The volunteer can assist the learning process while the children and adults are having fun. Shifts are available daily from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm and/or 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm. Please state availability when responding

The volunteer greeter position is a vital position at the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium. The greeter is one of the first faces the River Museum guests will see. The greeter welcomes each visitor to our campus with a “Welcome” and a “Smile”. The greeter stands near the front doors of the Mississippi River Center and the National River Center.

If visitors are entering for the first time in either building the greeter offers the visitor a map of the campus and answers any questions they may have. Questions may vary from:

The Down in the Delta Volunteer (National River Center) assists the Delta Educator with tasks such as instructing visitors to rinse hands, explaining the proper technique to use while interacting with the animals and provides simple interpretation when applicable. Using photos, interpretive media the live Cow nose, yellow, Atlantic stingray; this volunteer assists the Delta Educator in interpreting the stingray of the Mississippi Delta and in maintaining a safe environment for our animals and or visitors.  Shifts are Daily 10:00am - 12:00pm and/or 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm. The Blacksmith/Maintenance/Skilled volunteer (Boat Shop) is located in the boat shop or blacksmith shop in the Mississippi River Discovery Center. This is a group of volunteers that get together on Thursday mornings to help with electrical, woodworking, blacksmithing, building, and repairing projects for the Museum & Aquarium. If you like to work with your hands, have a skill that you would like to utilize or have wanting to learn a skill, this is the position for you!

Blacksmith/Maintenance/Skilled volunteers are needed 2 days a week. currently each Thursday morning but we are looking at adding skilled volunteers on Saturdays and Sundays, once trained. (The Museum & Aquarium requires at least 10 hours per year to remain an active volunteer).
