Through AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program), adults age 55 and older can make a meaningful difference right here in Fayette County by helping deliver Meals on Wheels to local seniors.

Volunteer drivers are needed to deliver nutritious meals and a friendly greeting to older adults who may be homebound or unable to drive. Routes are already planned, meals are ready for pickup and most volunteers can complete a route in about an hour.

Whether you can help once a week, occasionally as a substitute or more often, your time can make an important difference for seniors in our community. For many recipients, a Meals on Wheels volunteer provides more than a meal — they also provide a familiar face and a connection to the community.

AmeriCorps Seniors of Fayette County is celebrating America’s 250th and National Senior Center Month by connecting communities across the country through one simple act of kindness — sending a card!

This holiday season, AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP of Fayette County is bringing the community together to Sleigh Hunger for more than 100 homebound seniors throughout Fayette County — and we need volunteers to help make it happen!

From September through early December, local businesses, churches, organizations and community members will be collecting nonperishable food for our annual holiday food drive. Donations will be used to create special holiday blessing bags for local seniors who may otherwise face the season with limited food, limited mobility and fewer opportunities to connect with their community.

Volunteers are an important part of making this project possible! Opportunities may include helping collect and organize donated food, sorting items and preparing holiday blessing bags for distribution.

A few hours of your time can help fill a pantry, brighten a holiday and remind a homebound senior that their community has not forgotten them.

This October, AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP of Fayette County is collecting new socks for neighbors experiencing homelessness and children in foster care — and we need your help!

Socks are one of the most needed but least donated clothing items. Something as simple as a fresh, warm pair can provide comfort, dignity and a little reminder that someone in the community cares.

Volunteers and community members can support Socktober by donating new socks throughout the month of October. Every pair helps us fill the basket and extend a little warmth to someone who needs it.

Fayette County Senior Citizen Center is looking for volunteers who want to do more than simply lend a hand — we are looking for people willing to share their interests, skills and experience with local seniors.

Volunteer opportunities can be as unique as you are. Lead a craft activity, host a game day, share a favorite recipe, teach a class, start a book club, lead gentle exercise, talk about a hobby, help with an event or bring us an idea of your own!

We are also seeking community-minded volunteers interested in helping guide the future of the Senior Center through leadership and board service.

Whether you have an hour to share, a talent you would love to teach or years of experience you want to put to good use, your involvement can help create opportunities for friendship, activity and connection for seniors throughout Fayette County.
