Cahokia School District #187 AmeriCorps Members engage in first-hand community service. Members provide Pre-K-12th grade services to students and their families, such as: mentoring, support services, and family engagement. Members also meet the needs of our students and families by serving in our district’s community center food pantry, participating in Mobile Market distribution, and by packaging meals for those in need.
Member will, primarily, serve their hours at their assigned Site Location. Member is expected to adhere to the schedule provided by their Site Location Supervisor. Member will serve in classrooms mentoring/tutoring students in small groups, or one on one, focusing on academic tasks outlined by each Classroom Teacher. The goal is to help each student build academic strength. Member will also work with Staff at their Site Location to help plan and coordinate school-wide family events. Member will attend events to help strengthen connections and to encourage increased family engagement. Member will serve at district-wide mobile markets, and at the district food pantry. Our mobile markets and food pantry provide our families with free fresh food to meet their needs. In addition to these duties, Members will work together to package meals for those in need at an area food bank on a monthly basis.
As part of the program, our Members are committed to their own professional development. Members attend a variety of trainings that will prepare them to enter the workforce once they exit our AmeriCorps program.
