We are hosting our biggest community event of the year. This will be a 2-day festival and we need all the volunteers we can get. The event is September 12-13. On Saturday, it runs from 10-6 and on Sunday it runs from 12:30-6. Hours are available throughout the festival. Anywhere from 1 hour to all day both days.

Who: HandsOn Suburban Chicago needs caring and reliable community members like you to provide academic support to high-needs elementary school students!

What: Lunch Buddies strengthens the foundational academic skills of students in need through volunteer-based tutoring. Under the direction of program staff, volunteer mentors provide homework help, practice math skills, and/or develop literacy skills by reading with groups of 1-3 students.

Where and When: Lunch Buddies takes place at Jane Addams Elementary School in Palatine, IL and will run from October through the first week of May. Volunteer tutors are needed on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays during the students' lunch hour, between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM (dates and times are subject to change). Choose and commit to one day per week.

Why: Tutoring is a fun and rewarding experience. In addition to the satisfaction that comes with positively impacting those in need, volunteering in schools is an ideal way to meet new people, enhance your resume, and learn new skills. Tutoring at Lunch Buddies is also a great way for college and graduate students to earn field hours.

We need volunteers to help with the service of our afternoon meal. Positions include Servers, Bussers, Running Trays to the tables, making drinks, drink refills, running desserts, and Greeting patrons. Training is offered in the morning before service. Please come in working attire with hair neat and restrained as we work with food.

Volunteers in the thrift store will help to sort through donations, hang clothing, complete clothing vouchers, and check out patrons. A friendly personality and a love for people is a must!

There are various needs in the kitchen including food prep, service, and dishes. Each volunteer will be trained on each task before starting.

The IDHS-Serve Illinois Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service in partnership with the Illinois State Fair is recruiting shift leaders and special volunteers 18 and over to help provide a more sensory-friendly environment at the fair. Volunteers are needed to assist with: Registration, Clean-up, and Floaters.

Volunteer will provide companionship serves where ever the patient calls home. They could call home in a facility, personal home, assisted living . Time of operation determines on the volunteers availability. Our volunteer pick their hours. 

Help harvest native wildflower seeds from Fort Daniel Conservation Area prairies to diversify other sites. This light intensity work involves picking seed from stalks and walking through tall vegetation. No experience is necessary. Dress for the weather, wearing long pants, long sleeves, and sturdy work shoes. Gloves and all necessary equipment will be provided. For all ages. Requirements

Join La Villita Farm every Friday from July 10th-October 30th for weekly community harvests. During this time, our team harvests, processes and packs over 60 bags of produce which are then distributed to families, free of cost, by our community drivers. Our community distribution program contains a wide variety of sustainable grown vegetables, fruits, and herbs which are then shared with community members in need. 

We're looking for caring adults like you to step up and become trained volunteer advocates for children that have experienced abuse or neglect in your community. Local CASA Staff are ready to give you the training, support, and supervision you need to Change a Child's Story. 

With a commitment of 5-10 hours per month, CASA volunteers build long-term relationships with children who have an open child abuse or neglect case in Illinois. CASA volunteers meet with the child monthly, communicate with the adults in a child's life, and advocate for the child's best interests in the court system. When a business expresses interest, you'll schedule a follow-up call with a member of the QUED-UP leadership team, who will handle the sponsorship conversation.

You can work from your dorm room, apartment, home, or the VITAS office. You’ll call patients at home, asking how they are doing, checking on needed supplies, listening, and identifying any service concerns.

Hospice volunteers visiting nursing home patients lessen the burden on family members who may be too far away to play an active role in their loved one’s life.

With hospice training, you will find that your skill sets are sharpened and new ones emerge. Hospice volunteers are trained in communication skills, family dynamics and how to make a positive difference for patients and their caregivers. After you complete the required orientation, VITAS-trained volunteers are prepared to visit nursing homes and assisted living facilities to provide relief care for: caregivers, offer companionship and pampering to the patient, sit vigil, and help in other meaningful ways.

Gentiva Hospice (Formerly Kindred Hospice) is an agency with a commitment to people facing a life limiting illness and providing comfort and compassionate support for patients and their loved ones so they may experience the best possible quality of life. Gentiva Hospice serves Cook, Lake, McHenry, DeKalb, Kane and DuPage counties in both private residences and nursing facilities.

Gentiva Hospice is seeking volunteers to provide companionship and support to patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families in your community. Patient Visit Volunteers provide conversation, leisure activities or a quiet, caring presence. You may also use your education and/or area of expertise to aide our patients and program.

Assignments can include art therapy; horticultural therapy; music for relaxation; pet therapy; and reminiscence / life review techniques such as recording oral histories, storytelling and scrapbooking. Volunteer Zoom Exercise Host (Remote)

The Working On Wellness Foundation provides FREE online seated exercise sessions for people who cannot participate in traditional standing or floor exercises. Our programs support individuals living with conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, arthritis, mobility challenges, and aging-related limitations.

We’re seeking friendly, empathetic volunteers to host live Zoom exercise sessions on weekday mornings. Each session begins with 15 minutes of community discussion time. Monday through Thursday, that is followed by a live or pre-recorded seated exercise class led by certified instructors. On Fridays, co-hosts present and facilitate our WOW Workout for your Brain, which features first a a story for auditory memory, then two brain game type worksheets. We are also open to training more volunteers who would be willing to substitute or co-host as needed. All sessions begin at 11 AM Eastern (10 AM Central, 9 AM Mountain, and 8 AM Pacific) and last for one hour.

Front Desk Support: We are looking for a reliable and friendly Office Volunteer to join our team and assist with front desk coverage. If you have a couple of hours to spare during the the week, we would love your support.

We have multiple volunteer opportunities for people to get involved with us at Urban Growers Collective! Majority of these opportunities take place at our South Chicago farm (9001 S. Mackinaw Ave) and are instrumental in making sure we can grow food for our communities. Additional information for each and registration can be found on our Eventbrite here. 

1. Each Saturday, we host an afternoon tour and volunteer shift from 1:00 - 4:00 PM. People can join this tour of our 7-acre South Chicago farm to hear more about our organization's mission and history and learn about our opportunities for communal engagement! For those who have already attended a tour and afternoon slot, they can join us for morning volunteer hours as well which start at 10 AM!

2. For those who are looking for hours during the week, please join our Harvest team! As a Harvest volunteer, you will help to get a variety of blooming crops out of the ground and processed, so they're ready to end up on someone's plate. Harvest volunteers also receive a free bundle of crops of their choosing each time they head out from their shift. Right now, shifts are limited to Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays, but will eventually expand to include Saturdays. 

Before signing up for a shift, harvest volunteers are required to take a Harvest and Post-Harvest Handling workshop. Our next workshop is on June 27th and you can sign up here.  If you're interested in joining please email outreach@urbangrowerscollective.org to get the fee waived for registration. 

3. We also have weekly volunteer opportunities at our MLK Garden of Healing and Resilience (6031 S. King Drive) and our Roosevelt Youth Square Farm (1421 W Washburne Ave). Both take place on Thursday afternoons, and the work will prioritize maintaining the garden space's food and beauty for community members to enjoy.

Direct and monitor traffic of dumpsters full of garbage and tree limb or other disaster waste, city trucks, volunteers and other organizations so that staff and volunteers are working in a safe environment and individuals get in and out efficiently and effectively. Show visitors where to park and answer questions as needed. 

Assist the volunteers and staff by providing water (keep coolers full) and snacks as needed. Fill in for volunteers on breaks or meals as needed. Keep water and snacks arranged and in order. Report if there are needed items. Other duties as requested.

We are in need of volunteers who can assist with disaster relief after a tornado hit our site. This includes administrative duties to help with a high demand of emails and calls. 

You do not have to be present for the whole 9am-5pm shift. We appreciate any help you are able to offer between these hours.

Activities include making cards, sorting clothes, and doing quality checks on toys and books. Volunteers 16+ may be asked to help pack diaper orders for community distribution. A Family Friend is a trustworthy and caring individual, willing to provide support to a Host Family or offer extended family-like relationships to a parent facing various challenges. They offer practical and emotional support, helping them envision and achieve their desired goals. The goal of a Family Friend is to journey with the parent until their situation has begun to stabilize, helping to start to establish solid parenting skills and a safe home environment for their children. Some Family Friends may provide daytime childcare at a host home or a parent’s home, or assist with transportation. Family Friending can extend beyond that to include weekend hostings and respite opportunities. We strongly encourage all families to contemplate becoming Host Families, enabling them to serve in these respite opportunities.
