Volunteer: Virtual Opportunity: Boost Your Community's Volunteer Engagement!

Connect Your Neighbors With Local Volunteering Options  – – Right from Home!

When we know more, we can do more.

Community Compass is a crowdsourced platform that connects volunteers with their community and each other. We’re building a national directory of nonprofit organizations, mutual aid and grassroots networks, service clubs, and more. Because volunteer groups come in all shapes and sizes, our Community Pages include smaller, less formal organizations alongside established nonprofits.

We’re looking for enthusiastic contributors (like you!) to help us update and enrich Community Pages and Organization Pages on Community Compass. With some research and your curiosity, you can help your neighbors quickly find nearby nonprofits, mutual aid groups, service clubs and more – making it simpler than ever for everyone to make a local impact.

Community Compass contributors have already helped us identify over 3,600 ways to volunteer in more than 380 communities in the US!

What You'll Do:

Be a Contributor: Conduct quick, simple online research to identify active service clubs, mutual aid groups, and upcoming volunteer events in your community.

Be a Fact Checker: Enhance your community's page on Ways to Connect by ensuring the information is current, accurate, and inviting for potential volunteers.

Be an Organizational Profile Builder: Create Community Compass pages for nonprofit organizations.

Be a Moderator: Review and approve submissions.

Be an Ambassador: Coming soon

QUED-UP Community Ambassador

QUED-Up is a Chicago-based nonprofit organization dedicated to helping underserved students gain access to careers in cybersecurity, animation, gaming, and technology through workforce development, mentorship, certifications, and hands-on education programs. QUED-UP works with schools and organizations throughout Chicago, including Chicago Public Schools, and has donated nearly 1,000 computers and technology devices to students and families in need.

Volunteers will complete weekly outreach and fundraising goals as part of their 20 volunteer hours per week. Training, scripts, outreach materials, mentorship, and ongoing support will be provided by the QUED-UP team. Programs with structured volunteer goals and community engagement activities are considered a best practice for successful volunteer programs.

Reaching out to friends, family, and community members
Helping connect with local businesses and sponsors
Sharing student success stories and impact updates
Promoting cybersecurity and animation education programs
Assisting with community outreach and awareness campaigns
Helping recruit supporters, volunteers, and partners
Supporting fundraising and sponsorship initiatives
Sample Weekly Goals (20 Hours Per Week)

Help generate at least 2 donation or sponsorship conversations
Recruit 1 additional volunteer, supporter, or community contact
Attend 1 virtual team check-in or outreach meeting
Support at least 1 fundraising or awareness activity each week

This opportunity is ideal for individuals interested in community outreach, fundraising, education, technology, cybersecurity, animation, gaming, leadership, and workforce development.

Volunteer: End Loneliness! Be a friend to an isolated older adult!

Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly's (LBFE) philosophy, programs and activities are focused on alleviating loneliness and isolation among older adults in DuPage and Kane County. The need for social interaction is critical to the human spirit - we believe that nurturing the soul is as important as feeding the body. The older adults we engage with have little to no contact with family and/or friends and are living life alone. Volunteers support older adults in friendship through various activities and programs, such as in-person visiting, parties, and holidays.

Regular in-person visiting is the best way to alleviate loneliness and isolation. LBFE is seeking volunteers that can visit an older adult in-person. Our goal is to connect people together in friendship. In-person visits could vary from in an older adult's home, to your home, outdoors (weather appropriate) or in some other great spot in the community.

To begin, please join us at an upcoming Zoom orientation! Follow the link below to register. Attendance at this one-hour orientation session is required to volunteer, as well as successful completion of a background screen.

Volunteer: Volunteer Transportation Drivers for Seniors in So.Kane and Kendall Counties

This volunteer opportunity is for individuals aged 21 and over.

Do you love the elderly? Have a valid driver's license, car insurance, and access to a vehicle?

Use your car to make a crucial impact with your volunteer service. Volunteer drivers pick up seniors and drive them to and from doctor appointments. This opportunity is very flexible; only accept assignments that work for your schedule and location. Please accept the call to provide tangible help as a driver.

Mileage reimbursement is available.

Those 21 and older may volunteer however, if you are 55 or older, join the AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) to make your service count on a national scale and to help Senior Services Associates.

Are you looking to volunteer in Kendall County, Southern Kane County, or both? Please help our seniors get to crucial appointments.

Be a Friend! - Volunteer for the Friendly Visiting Program (FVP)

Are you 18 or older, friendly, dependable, compassionate, and committed to making a positive difference?

Yes? Then be a friend to local seniors living in the Southern Kane or Kendall area. Our friendly visiting program helps to reduce senior isolation and could be the perfect volunteer opportunity for you. Volunteers provide one-to-one social interaction with seniors facing social isolation.

Volunteering for FVP makes a real difference for seniors. Every encounter a volunteer has with local seniors brightens the senior’s day through socialization provided with visits, phone calls, and even letters can bring happiness to someone experiencing depression or loneliness.

To be eligible to volunteer in the Friendly Visiting Program, volunteers must:

Pass a criminal background check Provide personal references Complete a detailed interview with the Friendly Visiting Coordinator

An ideal volunteer would be caring, compassionate, and a good listener. Volunteers are asked to give at least one hour of service each week and can commit to one year of service.

Those aged 18-54 years may become a Friendly Visitor but are not eligible for the AmeriCorps RSVP program.

Those who speak an additional language are also welcome and needed.

To learn more about this opportunity, contact Rebecca Koss at rkoss@seniorservicesassoc.org or call 630-897-4035
