Volunteers Needed 

This position supports the Regional Biomedical Services department (Your Local Area). This opportunity requires participation in in-person activities and/or performing work in a Red Cross facility. 

                                  Blood Donor Ambassador (EXTREME NEED)

Greet donors, explain the donation process as necessary and assist with initial intake and hand offs through the blood donation process.

Direct donor to next step of donation or options for future donations if deferred.

Model excellent customer service behaviors.

Ensure blood donors have relevant information and that questions are answered appropriately while creating a favorable impression of the blood donation process.

Learn and share the Red Cross story, including the mission, vision, and values

Provide customer service to donors in the Hospitality Area by ensuring that each donor is recognized for his/her contribution. Report possible adverse post-donation physical reactions to the collections staff.

Set up and maintain cleanliness in Reception and Hospitality Areas, and Donor Areas/Beds as requested

Work with collections team supervisor or charge staff to match donor’s blood type with the best product for maximum impact

Responsible to inform donors of current and upcoming donation promotions

May make reminder/cancellation calls, re-schedule donor appointments, and perform follow up activities as directed

Role includes greeting donors, assisting with registration, and ensuring a positive donor experience. Even a few hours of your time can make a lifesaving difference.

Restoration Workdays are designed to help remove invasive plant species that interfere with the native habitat in our parks. This is an important step in maintaining a healthy environment in our parks and community. Plant removal is done through cutting with hand tools and/ or hand pulling when possible. This is a hands-on task and requires volunteers to be able to bend, carry tools, traverse uneven terrain, and in some cases walk long distances.
*11/4 date we will be picking up trash along the hillside while the road is closed for it's monthly maintenance work. 

Close toed shoes are required, long pants are preferred, but are optional. Please bring a water bottle and work gloves. We will provide work gloves if needed.

Looking for someone to assist in picking up our Pantry items from St. Stephen's, Mondays. Pick up time is 9:00 am. If you are able to pass our MVR, we provide the van. 

We need assistance in the pick up, loading and loading of the pantry items. This is an ongoing need.

We are excited to expand this opportunity to more nurses: If you are an RN or LPN with a current professional license, the American Red Cross is eager to talk with you about an incredible volunteer opportunity at the Woodson Health Clinic at the Rock Island Arsenal.  Join a tradition of Red Cross nurses going all the way back to our founder, Clara Barton, by providing excellent patient care at a family clinic for our US Army personnel at the Arsenal.  The time commitment is minimal: If you can work one 5-hour shift per week, you will help meet the needs of the patients who rely on the clinic. This is an ideal opportunity for retired nurses or nurses who are working part-time.  If you want to give back to our military service members and continue to hone your clinical skills, we want to meet you and see if this is a great mutual fit.  Volunteers would work under the supervision of the officer-in-charge at the clinic, who is a Family Nurse Practitioner.   

During a public shopping event, volunteers keep the area looking good. We remove empty hangers, rearrange displays, and bag the shoppers' clothing. We assist shoppers with selection, if needed. Individuals and groups of all ages are welcome to help.

FLEXIBLE VOLUNTEERING CHOICES
Location
Volunteering for Junior Achievement is flexible, and in many cases, you may be able to serve a class close to your home or workplace!

Time Investment
The JA program team provides resources that make preparation easy, and with so many learning experiences to choose from, you can pick one that best fits your goals and objectives. Most volunteers will visit classrooms five times in one school semester for five class periods (about 45 min. for each class period/lesson). A typical JA volunteer will spend just ten hours preparing and volunteering!

Grade Level
Junior Achievement has learning experiences for grades K-12. Volunteers are able to select the grade and/or subject matter that best meets their volunteering goals and objectives. 

Delivery Model
 We have in-person, virtual, and blended learning experiences!

 K-12 LEARNING EXPERIENCES
Elementary
In grades K-5, children are eager to learn and full of energy! If you like working with elementary grade children, you will love volunteering for JA! Games, engaging worksheets, and more are used to make learning fun and impactful for this age group.

Middle School
Volunteering with youth in grades 6-8 is very rewarding! It can be so much fun but also helps youth at a critical stage in their educational journeys. In this age group, youth are curious about the future and the kind of jobs that exist. They have a longer attention span than elementary grade children, and they are capable of creating relevant plans for their futures. 

High School
If you enjoy working with kids that are ready to tackle the world but are looking for the paths to be opened up to them and are fascinated by innovation and entrepreneurship, the high school volunteer experience may be right for you! Volunteering at the high school level will typically be focused on one or more of the three JA pathways: financial literacy, work/career readiness, and entrepreneurship/entrepreneurial thinking. 

Help advocates and staff members with tabling events and outreach volunteer opportunities in the community! If you enjoy meeting others and spreading awareness throughout your community, we'd love to have you volunteer with us and help with various events! Are you available one day a week? Are you wanting to make the difference in the healing process of a sexual assault survivor? Become an advocate for sexual assault survivors today! Flexible hours for on-call shifts and respond in-person to area hospitals and law enforcement centers, provide support and resources to survivors of sexual assault. Available shifts are 5pm until 8am the next morning Monday-Friday, on Saturdays and Sundays shifts are from 8am until 8am the following day, and occasionally, 8am-5pm Monday through Friday.

 We are looking for individuals, groups, businesses, restaurants, families, etc., to prepare meals for the families staying at Family House. 

The Heart of the House Meal Program provides a way to extend care and comfort to our families who appreciate a home-cooked meal before going to the hospital, or upon return from a long day of medical treatments, or spending the day at the bedside of their loved one. 

Home-cooked meals keep the families from having to go to restaurants, eating out the vending machines,  having to cook after being at the hospital all day, and it allows them to just sit down and unwind. 

Here are some ways to ensure our guests can enjoy a nice meal during their stay:

We have two communal kitchens with everything you need to cook with. We have  3 barbecue grills outside. You will just need to provide the food you are planning to prepare. The number of families varies day by day, but you can call close to the day you are coming to get a count of how many families we have.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Mississippi Valley (BBBSMV) has an urgent need for mentors — especially male mentors — with more than 200 local youth currently waiting for a Big. Our one-on-one mentoring programs connect caring adult volunteers with area youth, creating meaningful relationships that empower young people to reach their full potential.

BBBSMV provides mentoring environments that meet the needs of our Littles (youth) while offering flexibility for our Bigs (volunteers). Each Big Brothers Big Sisters match is thoughtfully planned to ensure compatibility, safety, and success, creating positive and memorable experiences for everyone involved.

Community-Based Program
Bigs and Littles meet out in the community, usually on evenings or weekends. Spending 6–10 hours per month together, matches explore the Quad Cities, enjoy free or low-cost activities, and try new things while building a lasting friendship.

School-Based Plus Program
Bigs meet with their Littles at a local elementary school, typically during the lunch or recess hour. About once a week, matches can share lunch, play games, read, work on projects, or enjoy recess together.

BBBSMV also offers monthly group activities for all Bigs and Littles — from developmentally focused outings for elementary students to Big Futures events that support career exploration and post–high school planning for middle and high school youth.

Every Thursday through the growing season, volunteers will help with processing and preserving the fruits & vegetables harvested each week from our gardens.  Shifts are scheduled from 10am to noon and noon to 2pm, but you are welcome to sign up for both shifts!  

This volunteer role does require training, so if you have attended one of our Kitchen Volunteer training sessions, you are eligible to sign up.  Otherwise, please reach out to our Program Coordinator at jessica@convivium-dbq.com to learn more about getting trained to help in our kitchens.

The GYT: Get Yourself Tested Events are a community collaboration between Central Illinois Friends and Hult Center for Healthy Living, UnityPoint In-School Health, Positive Health Solutions, Peoria Public Schools, and countless other community-based agencies in Central Illinois.

These events are made possible with funding from the Heart of Illinois United Way.

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) are trained volunteers whose role is to advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children in the Sangamon County juvenile court system. CASA strives to ensure that society is fulfilling its most fundamental obligation to children in need. CASA trains and supports qualified, compassionate adults that will fight for and protect a child's right to be safe, to be treated with dignity  and respect, and to learn and grow in the security of a loving family.

EP!C's Community Day Services Program works to ensure each participant enjoys a productive, enjoyable day while building skills to enrich their lives. Looking for a rewarding way to give back? As a volunteer with this program, you’ll play a vital role in creating joyful, purposeful days for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. You’ll assist staff in planning and leading a variety of hands-on activities, from arts and crafts to music, games, basic life skills training, and community outings. Each day brings opportunities to connect, laugh, and help participants build confidence, independence, and meaningful relationships. No special experience is needed, just patience, compassion, and a willingness to make someone’s day brighter. Whether you're volunteering once a week or once a month, your presence makes a real difference.

EP!C’s Educational Services Program enables individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to build the skills and knowledge necessary to enrich their lives through enjoyable, productive, and therapeutic day programming. We envision a world where people with intellectual and developmental disabilities have every opportunity to achieve their best, and in Educational Services we aim to turn that vision into a reality with a variety of education options.

Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP): Objectively counsel Medicare beneficiaries, their Caregivers or a representative who has questions regarding Medicare, Medicare Supplement, Medicare Managed Care, Medicare Advantages and/or Prescription Drug Coverage.  Requires Certification through Illinois Department on Aging. 

Visit residents residing in a state licensed facility on a regular basis. Listen to residents' concerns and problems while having a friendly visit. Report observations, support residents' rights, privacy and confidentiality. Refer urgent concerns to the Ombudsman.  Requires additional Illinois Department on AGing training.  NEEDED IN ALL OFFICES!

Open and organize mail, balance checkbooks, pay bills for participants in the program. Assist in keeping the participant on track with their budgets. (Please note volunteer placement is based on the needs of the participants). Needed in all offices. Requires additional Illinois Department on Aging training.

Seeking Volunteers for any office. Specifically, we are looking for someone who would enjoy calling older adults after a home visit with a Care Coordinator to discuss further needs they may have. An example: Ensure that the participants home delivered meals started or how their respite services are going. Complete follow up surveys after a participant received services while in the hospital. Assist with Medicaid recertifications, assist in completing the annual applications, sort Medicaid mail and make follow up calls to participants regarding the Medicaid mail.

Assist local agencies in identifying and reviewing suspicious deaths of adult victims of alleged, suspected, or substantiated abuse or neglect in domestic living situations. 

The FRT meets once a quarter/4times a year. Qualifying volunteers include and are not limited to the following professions: Coroners, Health Care, States Attorneys, Police/Sherrif Departments, Health Departments and other Human Service Providers.

Multidisciplinary Teams (M-Teams) Volunteer: M-Teams are comprised of selected professionals from a variety of disciplines who meet minimally eight times per year (virtual options are available) to discuss and provide consultation on specific cases of adult abuse, neglect, or financial exploitation. The purpose is to use the varied backgrounds, training and philosophies of the different professions to explore the best service plan for the cases involved. The specific goals are to improve each Provider Agency’s response to its adult abuse and neglect clients by: Providing consultation on complex cases. Acting as a sounding board for case workers. Providing different perspectives on problems. Improving networking among peers within each professional group.  Additional Illinois Department on Aging training is required.

Basic Function: Under the supervision of Alternatives Program staff and Directors, assist agency programs and participants in promoting the independence and quality of life of older adults and their families.

Basic Responsibilities: Have knowledge of resources and talk with isolated seniors through our Ring for Care Program, assist agency programs by making program packets/materials, make copies, update resources, file, fold brochures, prep mass mailings, work with the Caregiver Counselors to call and assist Caregivers and/or assist with Caregiver Support groups, help prep and attend agency outreach events, become SHIP certified to assist with Medicare and Medicaid applications for Open Enrollment. 

Qualifications: Enjoy working with older adults and the general population. Must have the ability to pass a background check. Have good listening skills and maintain confidentiality. Complete initial orientation/training and attend annual meeting for volunteers. Complete an agency volunteer timesheet with a description of tasks performed. Must be able to commit a minimum of two hours a month.

Alzheimer's Association Community Representatives are community engagers that raise awareness of Alzheimer's Association programs, provide basic disease information, and link consumers to Alzheimer’s Association services. Our representatives serve as liaisons between the Alzheimer's Association and local groups such as neighborhoods, rural counties, businesses, and civic organizations or faith communities.

These volunteers represent the Alzheimer’s Association by sharing information about Alzheimer’s disease, free resources offered through the Alzheimer’s Association, and the many ways to join our cause at local community and education events.  There are also opportunities to do short educational presentations for those who are interested.

EP!C’s group homes offer individuals a safe, supportive, and comfortable space to live as independently as possible, thanks in part to the care and dedication of our amazing staff. We're looking for volunteers to assist with landscaping and outdoor maintenance projects that help create warm, inviting environments for our residents to enjoy.

Volunteer Tasks May Include:

Removing weeds, brush, or small trees

Planting flowers or shrubs

Laying rock or mulch

Power washing surfaces

Seal coating driveways or walkways

This role is a great fit if you enjoy working outdoors and don’t mind physical activity. Tasks may involve standing for long periods and lifting heavy materials.

We are looking for some volunteers to boost our volunteer base and bring new faces into our Montessori community.  This is an ongoing opportunity.  Our classroom hours are 8:30a-3:30p.  We are looking for volunteers to help out in the afternoons on a regular basis or as a fill-in for a other volunteers who may be on vacation.

You would be working with children in grades 1st through 6th, helping them when they ask for help or if you have something specific you would like to share with us, we can chat about that!  We can go more in depth when you choose this opportunity!

Our Critter Meals on Wheels program delivers food twice a month to over 120 pets in the Greater Peoria area that provide companionship for our Meals on Wheels clients. You can allow us to continue serving these individuals and their pets by hosting a pet food drive. Twice a month, Neighborhood House hosts a food pantry that has assisted ~350 individuals within the Peoria community. The food pantry is in need of several shelf-stable items that will allow us to continue serving the community by providing nutritional food. This area can get wet, so volunteers/interns should wear footwear that will not hold water. The volunteer can assist the learning process while the children and adults are having fun. The volunteer greeter position is a vital position at the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium. The greeter is one of the first faces the River Museum guests will see. The Down in the Delta Volunteer (National River Center) assists the Delta Educator with tasks such as instructing visitors to rinse hands, explaining the proper technique to use while interacting with the animals and provides simple interpretation when applicable. Using photos, interpretive media the live Cow nose, yellow, Atlantic stingray; this volunteer assists the Delta Educator in interpreting the stingray of the Mississippi Delta and in maintaining a safe environment for our animals and or visitors.  Shifts are Daily 10:00am - 12:00pm and/or 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm. The Blacksmith/Maintenance/Skilled volunteer (Boat Shop) is located in the boat shop or blacksmith shop in the Mississippi River Discovery Center. This is a group of volunteers that get together on Thursday mornings to help with electrical, woodworking, blacksmithing, building, and repairing projects for the Museum & Aquarium. If you like to work with your hands, have a skill that you would like to utilize or have wanting to learn a skill, this is the position for you!

Blacksmith/Maintenance/Skilled volunteers are needed 2 days a week. currently each Thursday morning but we are looking at adding skilled volunteers on Saturdays and Sundays, once trained. (The Museum & Aquarium requires at least 10 hours per year to remain an active volunteer). Green or Brown Thumb? All thumbs are welcome! Valeska Hinton Early Childhood Education Center sets on 6 acres in downtown Peoria. We have a park like campus that is in constant need of landscaping assistance. We are specifically in need of a group of individuals to come and help us clean up our butterfly garden. This time of year our milkweed needs to be cut down so that new small leaves will grow to attract the next round of butterflies and the butterfly garden is in need of weeding. Please bring your own work/garden gloves. We have a small supply of hand tools but if you have some you can bring that would be great as well.

This is our most upscale event with evening dinner and dancing. We have a featured speaker, music, and many silent auctions. It takes a team of behind the scenes and on-site volunteers to make this event happen! 

Lemonade Stand Fundraiser (May)

This consists of a month-long fundraiser, where families and businesses can host their unlimited stand and donate the proceeds to Foster Village Peoria. Lemonade stands, have a chance to earn a prize by being the most creative, most money raised, most unique stand, etc. Each week on social media Foster Village Peoria post for the upcoming lemonade stands will be happening and individual lemonade stands, advertise to their family, friends, circle of support. Most of the volunteering is behind the scenes, planning and promoting. 

3rd annual birthday brunch ( June 28, 2025)

This is a brunch fundraiser birthday party bash that encourages the community to come and hear about our services. We have a barista cart, do a trivia game to learn about Foster Village Peoria, and have many awesome silent auctions. We need a medium-size crew to help plan an execute this event.

Holiday open house party (December) 

This holiday party is an open house celebration for the families we have served. Youth affected by foster care and their caregivers can come and enjoy Christmas spirit. Sensory Santa provides meet and greets and Christmas photos we provide Christmas refreshments, an ornament making station, a scavenger hunt with prizes, and Christmas gifts for youth who registered. We need about a dozen volunteers on site during the party to run this event.

Every Thursday through the growing season, volunteers will help with processing and preserving the fruits & vegetables harvested each week from our gardens.  Shifts are scheduled from 10am to noon and noon to 2pm, but you are welcome to sign up for both shifts!  

This volunteer role does require training, so if you have attended one of our Kitchen Volunteer training sessions, you are eligible to sign up.  Otherwise, please reach out to our Program Coordinator at jessica@convivium-dbq.com to learn more about getting trained to help in our kitchens.

We constantly receive donations, and they are placed in closets but sometimes do not get sorted through due to time constrictions.  We are looking for an individual or individuals who are willing to come in 1-3 hrs per week to sort through them and reorganize the closets as needed.

Volunteer will greet guests as they come in, answer phones, hand out hygiene products and monitor the building to ensure safety.  If a safety issue comes up volunteer can deescalate the situation verbally if they feel safe if not staff or  MPD can be called.  

Guests are constantly coming and going from our shelter.  We need help getting the rooms cleaned up and prepped for the next guest.  This includes bagging up belongings and storing them or bagging all items and taking them to the dumpster; sweeping, mopping, cleaning the refrigerator, disinfecting all areas and getting bedding items & hygiene products placed in room.  Depending on the condition of the room it may take 1-3 hrs.

Loaves and Fish Food Pantry @ First United Methodist Church in Peoria is looking for volunteers to assist their patrons on Friday and Saturday mornings! The needs are as follows: welcome/greeting/security team, prayer ministry team (and children's ministry) and hand out/distribute food. 

The pantry serves up to 300 guests each week and it is a very busy, fast paced shift!

CASAblanca "Dancing with the Local Stars" is CASA of the Tenth Judicial Circuit's signature fundraising event of the year. It is a fun-filled evening of food, music and entertainment. The evening features local celebrities paired with dance specialists from the area with each dance being scored by local judges. Dance partners will vie for the coveted "Critics' Choice Award" and "People's Choice Award." 

To make this night a success we need friendly and energetic volunteers to serve as Table Hosts. An integral part of CASAblanca, Table Hosts serve as a welcoming face for each guest as they arrive. They check in our guests, guide guests to their seats, assist them with voting and the Sponsor-A-Child donation process for their assigned tables, with the support of Section Leaders. 

Table host training will be provided the week before the event. Training will be provided prior to event. Multiple session on Zoom or in-person will be available. Volunteers need only attend one training session. We hope you'll join us!
