The IDHS-Serve Illinois Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service seeks volunteers who can assist with administrative coordination for families affected by floods in Cook County. During the month of September, heavy rains caused flooding in several areas throughout Cook County. As a volunteer recruitment partner, Serve Illinois is working to address these unique challenges.

My Block - My Hood - My City

With the global spread of Coronavirus and 3,000 reported cases in Chicago, My Block My Hood My City will be ensuring seniors have access to hand sanitizer, health supplements, toiletries, and food. Seniors and those living with disability are most at risk in the event of the continued spread of the virus. You can support our Senior Viral Response with a donation, and seniors can request their care package below.

Public Interest Law Initiative (PILI): Volunteer lawyers are needed to answer civil legal questions from low-income Illinoisans through a secure website. Volunteer lawyers log onto the site at their convenience and answer questions waiting in the queue. It is a virtual walk-in legal clinic. Like typical legal aid, we see a lot of family law, consumer and housing questions on the site, but with the pandemic, we expect to more questions about employment, benefits and other areas of increased concern. The Greater Chicago Food Depository regularly needs volunteers to help repacking donated food and other products. Much of the food we receive at our warehouse comes in bulk quantities, and volunteers are scheduled to help us break it down into more manageable sizes. In a Repack session you may sort produce, inspect and box shipments of bread, or repack bulk dry goods (pasta, rice, beans) into smaller quantities. Together, we can properly and efficiently distribute quality food to participating food pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters in Cook County.

Family Matters - Chicago: Last fall we tore down a garage to make a green space for the youth at Family Matters. We need help spreading top soil, planting grass, and spreading mulch. We also are looking for help putting in a fence after the soil is spread. Email for more information.
