Through the AmeriCorps RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) a 55 and older program, you can help by assisting at Wayside Cross or Lifespring Center in Aurora. Wayside Cross is part of a rehabilitation ministry program. Male volunteers can help at Wayside Cross and female volunteers are needed to watch children among other opportunities at Lifespring Center, a shelter for women and children.

There is also an option to help at the ministry's resale shop, The Hope Chest in Aurora.

This volunteer opportunity is for individuals aged 21 and over.

Do you love the elderly? Have a valid driver's license, car insurance, and access to a vehicle?

Use your car to make a crucial impact with your volunteer service. Volunteer drivers pick up seniors and drive them to and from doctor appointments. This opportunity is very flexible; only accept assignments that work for your schedule and location. Our transportation drivers are not asked to handle wheelchairs as we understand special transportation is needed for that.

Transportation is an enormous issue for many seniors. Many seniors cannot pick up their prescriptions, get their groceries, or get to important medical appointments because they no longer drive and may not have anyone who can drive them to their destination. Please accept the call to provide tangible help as a driver.

Mileage reimbursement is available.

Those 21 and older may volunteer however, if you are 55 or older, join the AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) to make your service count on a national scale and to help Senior Services Associates.

Be a Friend! - Volunteer for the Friendly Visiting Program (FVP)

Are you 18 or older, friendly, dependable, compassionate, and committed to making a positive difference?

Yes? Then be a friend to local seniors living in the Southern Kane or Kendall area. Our friendly visiting program helps to reduce senior isolation and could be the perfect volunteer opportunity for you. Volunteers provide one-to-one social interaction with seniors facing social isolation.

Volunteering for FVP makes a real difference for seniors. Every encounter a volunteer has with local seniors brightens the senior’s day through socialization provided with visits, phone calls, and even letters can bring happiness to someone experiencing depression or loneliness.

To be eligible to volunteer in the Friendly Visiting Program, volunteers must:

Pass a criminal background check Provide personal references Complete a detailed interview with the Friendly Visiting Coordinator

An ideal volunteer would be caring, compassionate, and a good listener. Volunteers are asked to give at least one hour of service each week and can commit to one year of service. 

Those aged 18-54 years may become a Friendly Visitor but are not eligible for the AmeriCorps RSVP program.

Those who speak an additional language are also welcome and needed.

Volunteers aged 55 or older may be eligible for mileage reimbursement through the AmeriCorps RSVP Program. 

Through AmeriCorps RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program), a 55 and older volunteer program, you can help to make major differences in the lives of young adult individuals with disabilities. Bring some of your own knowledge and skillsets to this fantastic opportunity by teaching a class or holding a group that has to due with a specific skillset you have (ex: arborist, painter, instrumentalist, etc...) The opportunities at this placement are endless as you can help an individual by mentoring them, role playing job interviews, helping them to write a resume, being part of the buddy system on local day trips, being a chaperone at a dance, and so much more!

This organization is based in Oswego but has opportunities in multiple cities.

Volunteers are needed for:

Front Desk Volunteers: In this role, volunteers primarily greet and direct patients to their respective rooms, ensuring they feel welcomed and comfortable during their visit to the healthcare facility. Emergency Department Volunteers: ED Volunteers assist in various tasks, including rounding patient's waiting areas, changing bed linens, restocking supplies, among other tasks. These are essential in ensuring smooth operations and patient satisfaction. Rotating Floor Volunteers: This position involves rounding on patients, offering assistance with various tasks, and providing support to our healthcare staff as needed.

The hospital is seeking volunteers who have good communication skills, friendly and willing to be helpful. Volunteers aged 55 or older are eligible for mileage reimbursement through AmeriCorps RSVP program.

Through the AmeriCorps RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program), a 55 and older volunteer program, come help as a SHIP Counselor volunteer, you will objectively counsel Medicare Beneficiaries, their caregivers or representatives who have problems and/or questions with Medicare, Medicare Supplement, Medicare managed care or long-term care insurance. Responsibilities of a SHIP counselor include

having and maintain an email address, satisfactorily complete the initial SHIP training session, conduct individual health insurance counseling sessions with complete confidentiality to the client, must be able to navigate the Internet, may assist with Medicare and Medicare appeals claim filing, be an advocate for SHIP clients, be willing to contribute 8-10 hours per month counseling SHIP clients, complete a client contact report for each counseling session to regularly report SHIP activities on SHIP Tracking and Reporting System (STARS) by the end of each month. Must counsel without conflict of interest. Must attend ongoing education programs or meetings and agree to background check

Cannot be affiliated with the insurance industry or insurance claims filing business to the extent that serving as a SHIP volunteer could be used for personal and financial gain.

Through the AmeriCorps RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program), a 55 and older volunteer program, help seniors at their home during the warm months with weeding, planting, lawn mowing, etc...

This is for people who enjoy garden work. You can help seniors who are less ambulatory to keep their yards in order. THIS OPPORTUNITY IS FOR BOTH SO.KANE AND KENDALL COUNTIES. Background check mandatory.

Through the AmeriCorps RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program), a 55 and older volunteer program, come help in Yorkville at Caring Hands Thrift Shop.

Daily tasks include pricing, sorting, hanging, and placing donations out onto the sales floor, using the cash register, answering phones, assisting customers, etc...

The Shop is open Mon-Sat 10am-5pm but hours served by volunteer are based on volunteer's availability.

The theatre utilizes volunteers to usher guests to their seats. This opportunity is wheelchair accessible and allows for seated breaks if needed. This opportunity is suited for all types of abilities.

Through the AmeriCorps RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program), a 55 and older volunteer program, come help the Community Nutrition Network by delivering meals to local seniors! There are plenty of seniors in our community who do not drive and need meals delivered to them. We are looking for volunteers willing to drive their own vehicle to deliver meals to seniors along a determined route. Community Nutrition Network and the pickup of meals is located at The Beecher Center in Yorkville.

Daily tasks involve sorting food donations, preparing boxes for neighbors, assisting with the distribution, helping with special programs/events, or working in the Essential Garden.

Each distribution day requires 35-40 people.
