Groups and/or individuals are needed to clean, disinfect and organize toys at Almost Home Kids at OSF Children's Hospital of Illinois. 

Almost Home Kids provides transitional care in a home-like setting for children with complex medical needs, as well as training and respite care for their families.  Almost Home Kids is a bridge from hospital to home.  Transitional care is a program for children who are medically stable and ready to leave the hospital; however, families need some extra time to make preparations for their children's return home. In a comforting environment, children receive 24-hour medical support from skilled pediatric nurses.

Do you love to cook and bake?

Groups and/or individuals are needed to provide meals, snacks and treats for families of residents at Almost Home Kids. 

Almost Home Kids provides transitional care in a home-like setting for children with complex medical needs, as well as training and respite care for their families.  Almost Home Kids is a bridge from hospital to home.  Transitional care is a program for children who are medically stable and ready to leave the hospital; however, families need some extra time to make preparations for their children’s return home. In a comforting environment, children receive 24-hour medical support from skilled pediatric nurses. 

Almost Home Kids has a kitchen for serving; however, does not have an oven or stove.  Food must be prepared or purchased off site. We have microwave and toaster ovens for reheating.  If you love to cook, please contact Cheryl at 309-573-0711.

 

Recreational Volunteers engage the children with play activities such as reading, puzzles, sensory toys or holding. Opportunities are available seven days a week.

Recreational Volunteer Requirements:

Complete the online application, found on the Children's Hospital of Illinois website at, Volunteering | OSF Children's Hospital (osfhealthcare.org). Attend a volunteer orientation. Commit to a minimum of 20 hours in the five months following orientation or one hour per week. Provide a printed COLOR copy of a photo ID. Must be at least 16 years of age.  Provide documentation of a negative TB test administered within the last 12 months. Provide documentation of a seasonal flu shot given during the current flu season – October-April.  Provide documentation of a COVID-19 vaccine. Those 18 years and above will complete a background check form at orientation.

Almost Home Kids is not an appropriate site for court-mandated service hours.
