We need volunteers to help with the service of our afternoon meal. Positions include Servers, Bussers, Running Trays to the tables, making drinks, drink refills, running desserts, and Greeting patrons. Training is offered in the morning before service. Please come in working attire with hair neat and restrained as we work with food.

Volunteers in the thrift store will help to sort through donations, hang clothing, complete clothing vouchers, and check out patrons. A friendly personality and a love for people is a must!

There are various needs in the kitchen including food prep, service, and dishes. Each volunteer will be trained on each task before starting.

The IDHS-Serve Illinois Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service in partnership with the Illinois State Fair is recruiting shift leaders and special volunteers 18 and over to help provide a more sensory-friendly environment at the fair. Volunteers are needed to assist with: Registration, Clean-up, and Floaters.

Volunteer will provide companionship serves where ever the patient calls home. They could call home in a facility, personal home, assisted living . Time of operation determines on the volunteers availability. Our volunteer pick their hours. 

Crew member will assist homeowners with flood damaged items and treat for mold. Training will be provided. Protective Equipment will be provided. Must be 18 years or older. Must have valid state ID or drivers liscense.

Join La Villita Farm every Friday from July 10th-October 30th for weekly community harvests. During this time, our team harvests, processes and packs over 60 bags of produce which are then distributed to families, free of cost, by our community drivers. Our community distribution program contains a wide variety of sustainable grown vegetables, fruits, and herbs which are then shared with community members in need. 

We're looking for friendly, motivated volunteers to help us connect with local businesses that may be interested in supporting QUED-UP's mission.

No fundraising or sales experience is required.

Your role is not to ask for donations or close sponsorships. Instead, you'll simply introduce QUED-UP, briefly explain our mission, and identify businesses that would like to learn more.

When a business expresses interest, you'll schedule a follow-up call with a member of the QUED-UP leadership team, who will handle the sponsorship conversation.

Every conversation helps create opportunities for students who otherwise may not have access to technology education and career pathways. By connecting businesses with QUED-UP, you'll play an important role in helping us expand our impact across Chicago and beyond.

We are seeking dependable volunteers to support our Move-In Logistics Team. Volunteers will assist with unloading supplies, setting up event materials and equipment, and executing the established floor plan to ensure all spaces are prepared before participants arrive. This is a hands-on role that requires teamwork, reliability, and the ability to assist with light to moderate lifting while helping create an organized and welcoming environment.

We have multiple volunteer opportunities for people to get involved with us at Urban Growers Collective! Majority of these opportunities take place at our South Chicago farm (9001 S. Mackinaw Ave) and are instrumental in making sure we can grow food for our communities. Additional information for each and registration can be found on our Eventbrite here. 

1. Each Saturday, we host an afternoon tour and volunteer shift from 1:00 - 4:00 PM. People can join this tour of our 7-acre South Chicago farm to hear more about our organization's mission and history and learn about our opportunities for communal engagement! For those who have already attended a tour and afternoon slot, they can join us for morning volunteer hours as well which start at 10 AM!

2. For those who are looking for hours during the week, please join our Harvest team! As a Harvest volunteer, you will help to get a variety of blooming crops out of the ground and processed, so they're ready to end up on someone's plate. Harvest volunteers also receive a free bundle of crops of their choosing each time they head out from their shift. Right now, shifts are limited to Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays, but will eventually expand to include Saturdays. 

Before signing up for a shift, harvest volunteers are required to take a Harvest and Post-Harvest Handling workshop. Our next workshop is on June 27th and you can sign up here.  If you're interested in joining please email outreach@urbangrowerscollective.org to get the fee waived for registration. 

3. We also have weekly volunteer opportunities at our MLK Garden of Healing and Resilience (6031 S. King Drive) and our Roosevelt Youth Square Farm (1421 W Washburne Ave). Both take place on Thursday afternoons, and the work will prioritize maintaining the garden space's food and beauty for community members to enjoy.

A Memory Bear, sewn by a volunteer with compassion and love, is a forever friend who can ease a hurting heart after the death of a VITAS hospice patient. 

Sewn from a patient’s favorite pair of jeans, sports jersey, dress, work uniform, or shirt, a Memory Bear can evoke the closeness of a loved one, bring a smile to someone in distress, or offer a sense of security to a child who feels alone after the loss of a parent or sibling. 

This is a great opportunity for you to give back to your community, use your creative skills, and strengthen your resume. By volunteering, you can make the biggest difference in another’s life.

VITAS Healthcare® is looking for musical volunteers who are able to play musical instruments and/or sing for hospice patients living at home, in the hospital or in long term care facilities.  

Sometimes what a hospice patient needs most is a way to express feelings without talking. By playing or singing their favorite song or hymns, VITAS music volunteers help patients and families reconnect with feelings and memories that can bring about a sense of peace and happiness.   

VITAS provides training on how to work with people at the end of life. The volunteer provides the talent, compassion and time. Assignments are made according to the volunteer’s time and location.

- Club Sprouts encourages young people to learn about locally produced, sustainable foods.
Volunteers facilitate this learning by leading activities and tastings for kids at the market.
- Farm to Market Field Trips welcome CPS classes to the market to connect students with
their food. Volunteers help facilitate the Farm to Market Field Trip program by assisting
with setup, including field trip supplies and tastings. Once the students arrive, volunteers
follow the field trip and support them by answering questions and distributing tastings.
- Food access volunteers assist with the aggregation and weighing of food from Green City
Market vendors. Volunteers help our community partners pick up these donations to be
distributed throughout the Greater Chicagoland Area.
- Market Ambassadors assist with general market operations and are the main points of
contact for Green City Market customers. Volunteers welcome shoppers, answer questions,
and maintain a customer count. Volunteers will assist with market setup and breakdown
including composting needs.

You can contribute regardless of your physical abilities, skills, and whether you have a lot of time or only a little.

We welcome young people to volunteer but please note that children must be at least aged 13 (unless part of an organized community group) and individuals 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Green City Market — Tuesday Volunteer

Love food? Care about your community? Green City Market is looking for volunteers to help make Chicago’s premier farmers market run, making fresh, local food more accessible to everyone.

Volunteers support a range of roles depending on the day:

Join Letters Against Isolation, a volunteer-run project bringing joy to seniors in aged care homes and programs across the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and Australia. Since 2020, our volunteers have mailed over one million cheerful, one-of-a-kind handwritten letters in dozens of languages!
