We are the University Blood Initiative (UBI) and it is our mission to empower local blood centers and ensure the next generation of blood donors by mobilizing an organized network of dedicated young leaders.
Our movement began in 2017 at the University of Chicago. A small coalition of students was formed, motivated by the desire to give back to the patients at the University of Chicago Medicine. These students developed a specialized model that allowed them to succeed beyond anyone’s expectations. Within a year, their efforts increased the in-center donation rate many times over.
What We Do
Our model, which harnesses the brilliance and abilities of the younger generations, is a solution to the current issues plaguing America’s blood supply: low donor rates, disengaged youth, and closure of local centers.
We offer a way for local centers to supplement their recruitment efforts and better engage with young donors at low cost and no additional effort. Our chapters are centrally trained and regulated so centers can focus on the day to day operations.
We invite you to join our growing community and change the future of blood donation.
