Who We Are

We are Chicago's Food Bank. Our mission is to provide food for hungry people while striving to end hunger in our community.

What We Do

The Food Depository is Cook County’s food bank. We operate as the food distribution center and training facility for a network of 700 community partners. Our partners range from “traditional programs” like food pantries, shelters, soup kitchens and mobile programs, to programs aimed at reaching populations facing higher-than-average rates of food insecurity, like youth, older adults, veterans, and people with disabilities. In addition to sending food out to community partners, the Food Depository operates programs and supports initiatives to alleviate the root causes of hunger. On-site, we have a workforce development program to teach unemployed or under-employed adults food service and culinary skills, we have a public benefits outreach team that connects individuals to SNAP and Medicaid, and we have a public policy team that advocates for anti-hunger legislation.
