American Red Cross

Who We Are

The American Red Cross is seeking individuals interested in emergency management, disaster relief, and/or public health to join the Illinois Disaster Corps team! Members serve 1,700 hours over 11 months (38-40hours per week) at Red Cross offices in Bloomington, Chicago, Moline, Peoria, Quincy, Rockford, Romeoville, Springfield.

What We Do

During steady-state operations, members perform duties as community outreach liaisons and emergency preparedness educators, teaching Red Cross health, safety, and preparedness classes to youth and adults in disaster vulnerable areas. Members also serve as caseworkers, assisting individuals in the recovery process post-disaster. During disaster operations, members serve alongside Red Cross staff and volunteers as mass care providers and caseworkers to give immediate disaster relief services to communities in the event of local, state, or national disasters. When requested by the State of Illinois, members will set up and operate a volunteer reception center and/or donations management facility. In partnership with local and state government entities, non-profit organizations, and other community-based organizations, Illinois Disaster Corps members will enable local volunteers to help their own communities recover after a disaster.
