Howard Brown envisions a future where healthcare and transformative social policies actualize human rights and equity for all. With an emphasis on LGBTQ+ people and their allies, uninsured and under-insured individuals, and people living with HIV/AIDS and other chronic conditions, the agency serves more than 40,000 adults and youth each year through primary medical care; behavioral healthcare; STI/HIV prevention, screening, and education; social, behavioral, and clinical research; youth services; elder services; case management; outreach services; and dental care. These programs eliminate health disparities and improve health outcomes experienced by LGBTQ+ individuals through research, education, care, and the provision of services that promote health and wellness. Since its inception in 1974, Howard Brown has spearheaded research and social service programs to revolutionize access to care for LGBTQ individuals. Deemed a Federally Qualified Health Center by the Health Resources and Services Administration in 2015, Howard Brown is nationally recognized as a quality provider of choice which offers services regardless of patients’ ability to pay. Today, the agency offers innovative programming such as same-day start for anti-retroviral therapy, support services for LGBTQ+ survivors of sexual harm, and human-first services which maintain its place at the forefront of HIV health innovation.
