Who We Are
Meals on Wheels is a community service that delivers a hot and healthy meal to an individual in the comfort and privacy of their own home. Our meals are planned and prepared under the supervision of a Registered Dietician at Decatur Memorial Hospital. All meals are heart-healthy, diabetic-safe and provide one-third of the recommended daily allowance of nutrition. Specialized diets, including renal, low lactose, and pureed are also available. Our meals are delivered by dedicated volunteers Monday through Friday between the hours of 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
What We Do
Our volunteers not only deliver a hot and healthy meal but also provide a friendly check to see that all is well. The volunteer may be the only person the senior sees that day so smiles are encouraged! Most routes take about an hour to run and are under 25 miles. Volunteers are welcome to help weekly, once or twice a month, as an occasional backup, or on holiday breaks. We are happy to work with your schedule. Simply call Meals on Wheels at 217-422-6611 for more information and to complete our short screening process.
Our Mission: To nourish and enrich the lives of homebound and disabled individuals by providing nutritious meals that promote independent living.
