Since 1968, Literacy Chicago has addressed the literacy and language needs of adults in Chicago. Thousands of adults have participated in the broad range of free educational programs throughout the city. Literacy Chicago has developed Basic Literacy, GED preparation, English as a Second Language, Workforce Development, Citizenship classes, Digital Literacy and numerous bridge programs. More than 150 dedicated tutor volunteers contribute significantly to the success of Literacy Chicago and make a big difference in the lives of their students.

We offer free educational programs to adults in the Chicagoland Area. Volunteers tutor adults with low levels of literacy, ESL students, digital literacy, and citizenship
