Who We Are

The 5th Avenue Community Garden is a community-led initiative dedicated to improving food access, promoting environmental stewardship, fostering youth development, and strengthening neighborhood connections in Ward 5 of Kankakee, Illinois. Established through the collaboration of residents, volunteers, community organizations, local businesses, educational partners, and civic leaders, the garden serves as a shared space where individuals of all ages and backgrounds can come together to learn, grow, and serve their community. The garden operates through the leadership of the Youth Empowerment Initiative (YEI), 4-H Lepra's Club, community volunteers, and local partners who share a commitment to creating a healthier, more vibrant, and more connected community.

What We Do

The 5th Avenue Community Garden is a community-based beautification, food security, education, and wellness initiative located in Ward 5 of Kankakee, Illinois. Through partnerships with residents, youth organizations, schools, businesses, faith-based organizations, and community agencies, we transform underutilized space into a vibrant community asset that promotes healthy living, environmental stewardship, neighborhood pride, and community engagement.
