Virtual Volunteer: Help Build Chicago's Clean Air Resilience

Calendar Until Nov 18, 2026
Time Flexible virtual schedule. Projects may be completed in smaller or longer work sessions based on the volunteer's availability and assigned work.

Description

Help make cleaner air and healthier communities more accessible across Chicago, all from home.

Windy City ToolBank serves as a logistics and distribution partner for the Chicago Clean Air Resilience Network (Chi-CARN), a collaborative effort working to help Chicago communities prepare for unhealthy air events, including wildfire smoke.

We're looking for virtual volunteers who can contribute their skills to meaningful projects supporting community outreach, communications, research, and access to clean-air resources.

What might I work on?

Projects will vary based on current needs and your interests and abilities. Volunteer projects may include:

  • Researching community organizations and potential partners
  • Helping identify organizations and communities that could benefit from clean-air resources
  • Researching vendors, products, resources, or potential donations
  • Creating or updating outreach lists and spreadsheets
  • Drafting emails and other outreach materials
  • Helping with social media content and online promotion
  • Creating graphics or other visual content
  • Writing or editing educational and informational materials
  • Organizing digital information and resources
  • Data entry and other administrative projects
  • Helping document and share the impact of Chi-CARN's work
  • Other virtual projects matched to your skills

You do not need experience in air quality or environmental work. We can provide background information and direction for individual projects.

Flexible and Accessible Volunteering

This opportunity is designed to be completed remotely. We want volunteers to be able to contribute based on their individual skills, abilities, schedules, and access needs.

If there are particular types of work you enjoy or tasks that are more accessible to you, please let us know. We'll do our best to identify projects that are a good fit.

Need documented volunteer hours?

Windy City ToolBank welcomes volunteers who are completing community-service hours for SNAP work requirements, school, service programs, or other purposes. Volunteer hours completed through this opportunity can be tracked and verified through Serve Illinois.

Please let us know if you have specific documentation or reporting requirements so we can make sure your hours are recorded appropriately.
