Illinois JusticeCorps Fellows are at the heart of what makes Illinois JusticeCorps a success. The program provides a unique and fruitful service experience for individuals of all ages, from recent college graduates considering Law School, to individuals looking to give back to their community and explore a new career. In each of our service locations, the Illinois JusticeCorps Fellow serves as the program's anchor member and team leader. Find out more about each of our 13 service locations here.

Here are some of the duties of the Illinois JusticeCorps Fellow:

Provide legal information and connecting court patrons to available legal aid resources.

Accompany people without lawyers around the courthouse to help them complete the necessary steps to move forward with their legal matters.

Design and implement workshops, and information sessions, on going to court on your own and other topics for the general public.

Encourage the culture of AmeriCorps and community volunteerism through planning and participating in service projects and other AmeriCorps events.

Work closely with site supervisors to support Minimum-time members.

Serve as a role model and providing on-the-spot assistance to Minimum-time members.
Benefits of being an Illinois JusticeCorps Fellow:
In most cases, the Illinois JusticeCorps Fellow makes a one-year full-time commitment (1700 hours) (Chicago (Daley), Champaign, Edwardsville, Geneva/St. Charles, Joliet, Rockford, and Waukegan). Full-time fellows receive an $18,000/year living allowance and receive a $6,195 Segal Education Award from AmeriCorps after successfully completing their term of service. They are also eligible for health insurance and child care assistance. At a few of our service locations (Woodstock, Markham, Kankakee, Galesburg, Bloomington, and Chicago (Leighton)) the Fellow serves at the courthouse on a Half-time basis. (900-hours/year, $9,000 Living Allowance and $2,960 Education Award). *Living allowance and Education award are for 2020-21 Program year - subject to change*
Illinois JusticeCorps Fellows typically start their service year in Mid-August with a two-day orientation in Chicago and serve during courthouse hours (8am-5pm) Monday-Friday. Some trainings and events take place on nights and weekends.
How to Apply:
The program typically recruits all Illinois JusticeCorps Fellows (both Full and Half-time) during the spring and summer months for a term of service that begins in August. Fellows are expected to commit to a full 12 month term of service.
