Description

Illinois Disaster Corps members help achieve the American Red Cross mission by focusing on underserved communities, providing much-needed training and services that community members may not be able to afford. They are dedicated to providing disaster preparedness education to neighborhoods, schools, and community-based organizations while also responding to the needs of individuals and families when an emergency does occur.

During steady-state operations, Illinois Disaster Corps members perform duties as community outreach liaisons and emergency preparedness educators, teaching Red Cross health, safety, and preparedness classes (including CPR and First Aid) to youth and adults in disaster vulnerable areas. Members also serve as caseworkers, assisting individuals in the recovery process post-disaster.

During disaster operations, members serve alongside Red Cross staff and volunteers as mass care providers and caseworkers to give immediate disaster relief services to communities in the event of local, state, or national disasters. When requested by the State of Illinois, members will set up and operate a volunteer reception center and donations management facility.

In partnership with local and state government entities, non-profit organizations, and other community-based organizations, Illinois Disaster Corps members will enable local volunteers to help their own communities recover after a disaster.

Due to the ever-changing nature of the disaster relief environment, members must be well-suited and willing to perform both in-person and digital-based service in support of various Red Cross disaster response operation needs. This includes willingness and availability to serve during weekdays and evening/overnight and/or weekend periods as needed.

Applications will be accepted through October 31st, with terms of service beginning in September and October; please apply now at http://www.redcross.org/americorps.; please apply now at http://www.redcross.org/americorps. Questions? Email ILAmeriCorps@redcross.org
