Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly's philosophy, programs and activities are focused on alleviating loneliness and isolation among elders in Chicago. The need for social interaction is critical to the human spirit - we believe that nurturing the soul is as important as feeding the body. The elders we work with have little to no contact with family and/or friends and are essentially alone. Volunteers support elders in friendship through various activities and programs.
The best way to alleviate loneliness and isolation are regular in-person visits. We are seeking volunteers that can commit to visiting or calling an elder twice a month for the next 12 months. The overall goal is to develop a friendship together. In-person visits could be in the elder's home, your home, outdoors (weather appropriate) or in some other great spot in Kane or DuPage County. Phone calling could be from anywhere, the perfect remote volunteer experience!
Join us at an upcoming Zoom orientation. Please register through link below. Attendance at a one-hour orientation session is required to volunteer, as well as a successful completion of a background screen.
